All right, bbcthree and bbcamerica, listen up. See this dude? I fucking hate this dude. His name is Gary Kendal, and I hate him.
I hate him so much I have become invested in what happens to him, and invested in thinking up everything that has ever happened to this man. So very invested. Unspeakably invested.
I have literally spent hours of my day thinking about pre-Rising Gary Kendal. Was he friends with Rick Macy? Were they team mates in something? Did they have classes together? What did Gary think of Rick becoming friends with Kieren? Did he tease Rick? Was he as nasty to Kieren back then as he is now? I have to assume he was, that they were at each others’ throats making Rick’s life difficult because he shouldn’t have to balance spats between his best friend and his boyfriend on top of all the other shit he was trying (and failing) to muddle through.
Was Gary jealous of Rick and Kieren? Did he know? Did he assume they were friends? Did he ever catch them holding hands? Did Gary spend time talking to someone else when Rick started spending time with Kieren? Was it Philip? What did Gary think of Philip? Were THEY friends?
When did Gary meet Vicky Barnes? I want to know how they got together, because Gary is kind of a big bag of dicks when it comes to personality. Was she just as nasty? Is Vicky Dean’s type because Gary was Dean’s type, or because Gary was the opposite? Did Vicky start dating Gary before or after the Rising? Was he ready to settle down with her, or with someone else- I like to imagine it wasn’t. That Gary was in love with someone else, and the dead rose, and he watched her die. I like to think she died in his arms, and that she is the one Gary was talking about when he yells at Kieren. I like to think that Vicky was there for him, and they got together out of that circumstance, and that she left when she realized Gary was actually a complete giant douchebag that has somehow learned to talk.
How long has Gary been friends with Dean? They call each other Gaz and Daz, and it’s the only adorable thing about Gary, to be honest. But he treats Dean like shit, and Dean keeps coming back. Are they war buddies? Does Dean owe him for saving his life sometime? Dean doesn’t really seem…. competent enough to have survived the Rising alone as a part of the HVF. Was Gary the one to watch out for him? Were they partners in crime? BFFs? Drinking buddies?
And for that matter, how did Gary come to look up to Bill? Obviously Bill took charge, and Gary is clearly a follower I suppose. Did he volunteer after his girl died in his arms? Was he throwing himself into the war to forget? Did he want revenge? He was terrified of fighting until he watched Jem, who was so much younger than him, fight harder and more viciously.
When did he fall for Jem? Was it that first night, their first battle? Was it after seeing her, time and again, fight for all their lives? Which time did she save his life and he realize he wanted her? Even though she left him at the end of series 2, does he still care about Jem? If he became a better fighter, a stronger fighter, to be her equal, to be worthy of her, to impress her, will he change again now that she has taken Kieren’s side? Will he adapt his behavior to once again be her equal? Or will he just be angry she turned her back? Where will that go?
For that matter, what else will happen to him? If he becomes a pariah in the town as it shifts to accept the undead after the events of series 1 and 2, will Halperin and Weston find him? Will Victus? Will he be recruited as a loyal person, the same way Maxine took him under her wing? Will he become their enemy while trying to do what he believes is right? Will he spy for them, work for them, commit atrocities in their names? Does he remember what the Rising took from him, and remain bitter about it forever?
I don’t think you understand the depths of my hatred for Gary Kendal. I need to know everything about him. I need a third season of In the Flesh so that I can learn more.
I need more Gary Kendal.

Y’all ever notice white kids rarely if ever get “tried as an adult” when they commit a crime?! I’m pretty sure that rule was created to lock up black kids

it’s not just an observation. it’s a fact. white children are more likely to get lowered sentencing and/or tried as a juvenile, while black kids are more likely to get maximum sentences and/or tried as an adult.

Gandhi has been historically the most aggressive character in Civilization due to an original bug in the first game that caused him to go all-out once he reaches democracy. They just kept the thing going ever since.

To further explain this bug, because I was chatting with mothmonarch about Civilization and other strategy games last night and I never got around to explaining this fully, but I love this story:
Gandhi’s AI in the original game had its aggression set to the absolute minimum (0 on a scale of 0 to 10, I believe, I may have this wrong but the basic idea I’m about to explain is accurate, as far as I can tell). Adopting democracy lowers an AI civ’s aggression by 2 points, so when someone who is fully peaceful loses two points of aggression, they should still be nice and polite, right?
Except this is an old DOS game, and so computer math is in place. What actually happened was that Gandhi’s aggression level ticked backwards two steps, from 0 to 255. On a scale of 0 to 10, Gandhi is now 255 points of pure nuclear rage.
And that’s the story as I recall it, but again I may have gotten some details wrong, so feel free to correct me! After that, as the original poster said, the devs loved the bug so much that they just kept it in as a running joke!

“On a scale of 0 to 10, Gandhi is now 255 points of pure nuclear rage.”I about pissed myself laughing at this.
